Vacancy as Architect

BACK GROUND
Fauna and Flora International (FFI) has been operating a program in Aceh since 1998. At first, most activities were focused on mapping elephant habitat and estimating their population. After the devastating tsunami in December 2004, FFI will focus on achieving two broad goals under this project, which are: a) to protect critical environmental services and resources from the Ulu Masen Ecosystem needed for Aceh’s reconstruction and b) to integrate environmental considerations into the long-term recovery efforts post-tsunami. In order to achieve both of preceding objectives, FFI will need to build a new office in Banda Aceh which will eventually be shared by the Ulu Masen Management Authority.

QULIFICATION DESIRE :
FFI desires that the design, construction, and building materials for the new office be as environmentally friendly as possible, minimizing impacts and maximizing energy efficiency, and the architect/consultant will need to have extensive experience and knowledge with that concept. Additionally, the architect will be tasked with providing input and design concepts for the construction of an environmental education center to be constructed about 25km from Banda Aceh.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

* BS or higher degree in architectural design from an accredited university.
* A minimum of ten years working as an architect with some experience designing environmental education centers.
* Expert knowledge of environmentally friendly building materials that minimize the environmental ‘footprint’ in the construction and operation of small to medium-size buildings.
* Good organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
* Expert knowledge and extensive experience in drawing and interpreting building plans
* Experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Autocad are required.
* Strong predisposition to work as part as a team, sharing credit and responsibilities, and motivating other staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Establish building concept of FFI green Office and environmental education and training center through consulting key FFI staff.
* Do presentation of concept and getting feedback from The management and FFI staff
* Designing The FFI Green Office and Leupung environment Education Center complete with the detail engineering Design (DED), compatible with available funds.
* Provide Bill of quantity for FFI green Office and Leupung Environment Education Center
* Provide Workplan and The Technical Specification of FFI green office and Leupung environment education center
* Supervise the contractor that wins the bid to ensure that high building standards are met throughout each construction phase
* Write progress report on monthly basis
